DESIGNER BOOKBINDERS UK COMPETITION JUDGING

Last week saw the judging of the Designer Bookbinders UK Bookbinding Competition which had a huge range of entries this year. The judging took place at The Art Workers Guild, huge thanks to them for all their help and for providing such a wonderful venue. Thanks also to all who entered, making the judges’ decisions so difficult!

The competition is very generously sponsored by The Folio Society who provided the set book Love Poems, Edited by Imtiaz Dharker and Illustrated by Mikki Lee.

We are very grateful to all the judges for taking time out to make some hard decisions. This year the panel included:

– International Light Artist Bruco Munro
– Lizzie Neville – Head of Books Conservation
– Sheri Gee, Art Director and Julie Farquhar, Head of Production at the Folio Society
– Fellow Kaori Maki from The Wyvern Bindery
– President of Designer Bookbinders

We welcomed Pom Harrington from The Chelsea Bindery representing Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association, and Ben Maggs  from Maggs Bros. Ltd.. We also had representatives from John Purcell Paper, Shepherds, Ludlow Bookbinders Ltd. and Ash Rare Books.

The winners will be announced at the private view on the 22nd November.
