Designer Bookbinders and the Bodleian Library, Oxford, proudly present a Festival of Bookbinding on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July 2022. The festival of bookbinding will bring together lectures, demonstrations, practical bookbinding sessions, mini demonstrations and a trade stand to help celebrate the opening of the exhibition “A Gathering of Leaves” – the fourth Designer Bookbinders International Competition 2022.
The six lectures and demonstrations will be free, but ticketed through the Bodleian website. We will post up details when this is live.

Demonstration – Mark Cockram – Minimalist Flat-Tight Back Binding
Lecture – Andrew Honey – Gathering Leaves – some approaches to bookbinding in recent accessions to the Bodleian Library.
Demonstration – Glenn Bartley – Vellum Over Boards
Lecture – Edward Bayntun-Coward – To bind, or not to bind.
Andrew Honey – public participation sessions of binding a printed ABC of Bodley chapbook (this will also be ticketed).
Trade Stall – Chris Shaw – selling essential bookbinding supplies.
Afternoon Only – Public Demonstrations (sessions for anyone to view – not ticketed):

Ted Bennett – demonstrate some forwarding techniques and discuss some of the principles of book structure.
Louise Brockman – Paper Marbling.
